As the southern hemisphere summer sets in, fishing trawlers from numerous nations head southwards, many of them to the southern ocean. Around this time (October) delegates of member nations of the CCAMLR (Commission for conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources) now numbering 25 ( 24 nations and the European Union), gather in Hobart, Tasmania to deliberate on the establishment of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the southern ocean, the pristine last bastion of aquatic bio-diversity left relatively untouched by man.
